History of the nailhead motor. The Wildcat Series!

Clark's hotrod buick below!

I've owned this car since 1996. I bought it for myself for my 30th birthday! (OK.. I was in grad school so I talked my super-awesome mom into helping me out.. explaining that I abosoluted NEEDED IT to maintain my sanity while I was buried in "the books" (getting my Master's degree in Mechanicl Engineering at the time). The car has served me well for the last 18 years.. I've rebuilt the motor twice (recent rebuld pics below), put in new rear end (changing rear gear ratio from 3.08:1 to 3.55:1 and adding moser racing axles).. I swapped in a ST400 transmission, now totally rebuilt (see pics below) by Jim at TriShield Performance in Michegan. Also, lots of TA performance parts in the engine.
The pictures above and below were taken back in 2001 or so.. just after I had the vinyl top installed. The light was right and a good friend of mine was a professional photographer.. he said "the light is just right, we got to go and get some shots! The shot above is on my way back from SEARS POINT RACEWAY.. I put the stock height springs back in, but still have the Mickey Thompsom E/T Racing drag-tires on.. The picture below is from when I had the "cargo springs" in the rear.. The car sat a bit too high for me.. hence the return to factory hight (above).
The piture is a bit blurry below, but shows the factory green color (with 50,000 miles on my first rebuild). After much debating my with my inner "must keep it stock" demons.. I decided to change color to red at right.. it was a factory color on this same motor in 1966.. though the rest of the car changed around it. With the clean paint below, in addition to a) repairing two blown headgaskets, several blown exhaust gaskets, numerous oil leaks around the timing cover and oil pan and (hopefully) a remounted and secured fuel pump cam eccentric.. the car should run a bit better! Big thanks to Russ at Centerville Auto Repair for all of the nailhead parts and advice!
Ah.. nothing quite as nice as dropping in a brand-new engine and transmission combo! Except having my lovely daughter decide to jump up and join in the fun!
